The first treatment is the longest, lasting between 45 minutes to 1 hour. We ask our patients to arrive about 5-10 minutes early so they can fill out some paper work before the appointment.
To ensure that chiropractic care is appropriate for your condition, we will need to establish a good picture of your overall health. During this appointment we will go through your past medical history and discuss the reason or reasons for you seeking chiropractic care.
Most of the information we need can be obtained from your case history.
Following this we undertake a physical examination including posture, range of movement and strength assessments along with a range of orthopaedic and neurological test to determine the cause of the problem, and most importantly rule out anything more serious.
At this point we ask you to put one of our clinic gowns on so we can get a good picture of your overall posture. If you would be more comfortable please feel free to bring shorts.
Once this is completed an explanation will be presented to you explaining what the diagnosis is and what treatment would be recommended for you including how long we anticipate it to take. There will always be opportunity for you to ask any questions as we feel that it is really important that you understand and are happy to move forward to treatment.
Any information obtained during this appointment will be kept confidentially and will be kept in accordance with the data protection act (1998).
Occasionally after the initial consultation we may require x-rays or further information; therefore treatment may be delayed in order for us to gather this information. Any imaging will only be requested where clinically justified, in line with current legislation and guidelines.
Following the initial consultation our findings may indicate that chiropractic treatment is not to suitable for you, in this case you will be given appropriate advice or referred to your GP or relevant specialist for further advice or treatment.
